Medical Aid for Vietnam
July 09 - July 23, 2006
Medical Aid Project Summary

Our 2006 Medical Aid for Vietnam Project (July 9th – 23rd, 2006) was a great success. Our medical team was a largest team ever. Together with many joining hands, we have accomplished more than expected.

A Medical Team composed of 47 doctors, ophthalmologists, dentists, dental hygienists, GP’s, physical therapists, students and volunteers from Canada, United States, and Australia has gathered in Saigon on July 8th, 2006. Our group divided into 3 separate teams traveling to various remote villages in Long Xuyen, Dalat, Bao Loc, Dien Chau (Vinh), Hue, Danang, Banmethuot, Bien Hoa, Dong Nai, Ba Ria (Vung Tau), Cam Ranh and Nha Trang. Together with the Vietnamese local doctors, nurses, nuns, and volunteers, our Medical Team has served more than 12,000 patients. We examined patients and gave out medication, conducted eye examinations and prescribed eye glasses, performed dental hygiene and extracted teeth, and distributed gifts and food to thousands poor people.

In our effort to collaborate with local hospitals and to continue providing free cataract surgeries to poor people, our Medical Team has donated a PHACO (a portable eye surgery machine) to Nha Trang City Hospital and provided it with necessary implants and supplies to perform cataract surgeries. Also, with the money generously contributed by our donors, the Medical Team was able to sponsor 15 children for emergency heart surgeries. Some of these children were barely clinging to life and, if operations are not performed immediately, they would have not spared a chance of staying alive past this year. Each surgery costs approximately $2,000 - 2,500USD. Our Medical Team also saw many other children who were in dire need of medical aid; however, due to our limited financial resources, we were only able to accommodate a small number of these children. So please continue to help us raising funds for this worthy project so that more children will have new lives.
Our team members had taken thousands of pictures of the places that we have gone through and the people that we have touched. Through these pictures you can see the work of our hands and the faces of our patients. These are your work and your patients as well. We have posted many of these pictures in our "picture" link of this website for your view.

Our 2006 Medical Aid for Vietnam Project would have not been as successful without your help, generosity and support. We are indebted our gratitude to those companies, businesses and individuals who have shared our mission and contributed to our finance, and to those who have donated medical equipments, medicines, tooth brushes, tooth pastes and gifts. Without your extended hands, our accomplishment would have not been so great.
